At one point he speaks of a world without time, elsewhere he says 'Time and space are real phenomena.' The difficulty I think Rovelli faces is that he uses the common physicist's approach of talking of a model as if it were reality. For example, at one point within a page of telling us of time's absence Rovelli writes of events that have duration and a 'when' - both meaningless terms without time. Time and again (pun intended) he tells us time doesn't exist, then makes use of it. It doesn't help either that the book is in translation so some scientific terms are mangled, or that Rovelli has a habit of self-contradiction. The bad news is that Carlo Rovelli does this in such a flowery and hand-waving fashion that, though the reader may get a brief feeling that they understand what he's writing about, any understanding rapidly disappears like the scent of a passing flower (the style is catching). The good news is that The Order of Time does what A Brief History of Time seemed to promise but didn't cover: it attempts to explore what time itself is. ![]() ![]() In fact, from the clues he’s given over the years, it seems that it has been fully plotted out, and merely waiting to be written. This is the most likely possibility as the author has expressed interest in writing a follow up almost since the release of the fourth book. We know from past statements that Paolini still has several stories planned in the world of Alagaësia, so here we’ll discuss the likeliest candidates for this mysterious new novel featuring Dragons. Understandably, this comment was greeted with much speculation from excited readers of Inheritance, many of whom were left with more questions than answers by the last book. (Just gotta finish this certain novel with dragons in it that I’m working on right now.) Glad you enjoyed it! There’s SO MUCH in the works. The first real hint of this came on November 6 of last year, when Paolini responded on Twitter to a fan of his Sci-Fi novel, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. ![]() Now as we approach Eragon’s twentieth anniversary, it seems from the author’s cryptic tweets that he has chosen to revisit the magical world he once created. ![]() ![]() Recognized by the Guinness World Records as the youngest bestselling author in history, Christopher Paolini made his debut at 18 with Eragon, which would become the first part of his Inheritance Cycle. As it is read in the first person, I found it took some time to become accustomed that the voice you were hearing was coming from a young, athletic Englishman, turned fierce warrior of Gor. My only minor criticism is the narrator, who does a good enough job with the reading itself, but I found he just didn?t have the type of voice I would have expected for the main character. Sound familiar? Well here is one of the originals and its hasn?t dated a bit. Where men lived by a simpler and more honorable code. A world where modern day weapons and technology are banned. In fact, listening to it now, I can?t help but wonder how much of today?s accepted Sci-Fi lore can be attributed to early works such as this. As expected, I enjoyed it immensely, having lost none of its original appeal. Having discovered this series back in the late 70's, I was delighted to see it listed on Audible. ![]() ![]() ![]() Where will it all end?
